For station and network operators. Count rules show when a platform passes its threshold, and an item left on a concourse is brought to an operator to check. Line rules cover the track edge and one-way passages.

One visit, four camerasTransit
  1. Concourse · Items left still
  2. Platforms · People counts and thresholds
  3. Track edge · Line crossed towards the track
  4. Gates · Crossings by direction
One visit, linked as candidates across cameras

This sector is in our industry directory rather than among the six primary markets. We have not developed a full workflow or pilot plan for it yet.

Where it is used

Who it is for

  • Station control room
  • Network operations
  • Track edge

A line along the platform edge, crossed towards the track.

  • Pedestrian flow

People counted in each platform and concourse camera's view, with thresholds.

  • Direction

A one-way passage walked the wrong way, or a bus lane driven the wrong way, each with its own rule.

Events of interest

Events for platforms, concourses and passages.

Each says what it needs and where it stops. The rules you set on a camera raise these events, and the alerts that go with them.

  • Line crossing

A person or vehicle crosses a line you draw, in the direction you choose.

    When
A followed object crosses the line one way, the other way, or either way.
    Limit
An object that is only partly in view near the line can be counted as crossing, or missed. A crossing inside the rule's repeat limit is not recorded.
  • Wrong-way movement

A vehicle, or a person on foot, crosses a line against the permitted direction. Each rule names the object type it applies to.

    When
A line crossed in the direction the rule forbids.
    Limit
A vehicle reversing briefly, or a person stepping back, crosses the line the wrong way.
  • Crowd gathering

More people are in a camera's view at once than the number you set.

    When
The count of people in the camera's view reaches the threshold.
    Limit
A count of people the camera can see, not a calibrated density and not a count inside a drawn zone. People hidden behind others are not counted.
  • Item left behind

A bag, case or stopped vehicle stays still beyond the time you set.

    When
A backpack, handbag, suitcase or vehicle stays still past the limit.
    Limit
Only the detected item types are covered, anywhere in the camera's view. A bag beside its seated owner can be reported.
  • Occupancy threshold

The number of people or vehicles in a camera's view reaches the capacity you set.

    When
The count of the chosen object type reaches the threshold.
    Limit
It counts what one camera can see, so a space covered by several cameras needs a rule on each.
  • Person on the ground

A scene reading describes a person lying or collapsed on the ground.

    When
The reading of a sighting carries the person-on-ground tag.
    Limit
It follows the reading, so it is not an immediate fall alarm. People sitting or resting can be read as on the ground.

Use cases

What a station control room uses it for.

What the current release does for this kind of site.

  • Track-edge crossing

An alert when a person crosses the line towards the track

  • Platform count thresholds

An alert when the people in a platform camera's view pass a number

  • Wrong-way pedestrians

A one-way passage or escalator approach crossed against the flow

  • Wrong-way vehicles

A bus lane or forecourt driven against the permitted direction

  • Item left on a concourse

A bag left still beyond a set time, for an operator to check

  • Passenger counts by hour

People counted for each camera, by quarter-hour, hour or day

What it needs

  • A line drawn along each platform edge and across each one-way passage
  • Thresholds agreed for each platform and concourse

Boundaries

  • A track-edge rule reports a crossing after it is seen. It is not a train-protection or platform-safety system.
  • Wrong-way rules are written per object type: a rule for people in a one-way passage is separate from a rule for vehicles in a bus lane.
  • Platform figures are counts of people in view, not a calibrated density.
  • Fights are not detected.
