For store operations and loss-prevention teams. Count the people in view of entrance and queue-area cameras, see entries to stockrooms outside permitted hours, and review the sightings around an incident.

One visit, four camerasRetail
  1. Entrance · People counts by hour
  2. Aisles · Dwell limits
  3. Checkout · Queue thresholds
  4. Stockroom · Entry outside permitted hours
One visit, linked as candidates across cameras

This sector is in our industry directory rather than among the six primary markets. We have not developed a full workflow or pilot plan for it yet.

Where it is used

Who it is for

  • Store operations
  • Loss prevention
  • Entrance counts

The people in view of each entrance camera, counted by hour. It is a count of people in the camera's view, not of entries.

  • Queue thresholds

An event when the people in view of a queue-area camera reach a number.

  • Stockroom and after hours

An entry during the hours an area is closed.

Events of interest

Events for entrances, queues and stockrooms.

Each says what it needs and where it stops. The rules you set on a camera raise these events, and the alerts that go with them.

  • Queue too long

The number of people in the view of a camera that covers a queue area reaches the number you set.

    When
The count of people in the camera's view reaches the threshold.
    Limit
A count of everyone the camera can see: not a count inside a drawn queue zone, and not a wait time. Staff and passers-by in view are counted too.
  • Occupancy threshold

The number of people or vehicles in a camera's view reaches the capacity you set.

    When
The count of the chosen object type reaches the threshold.
    Limit
It counts what one camera can see, so a space covered by several cameras needs a rule on each.
  • Crowd gathering

More people are in a camera's view at once than the number you set.

    When
The count of people in the camera's view reaches the threshold.
    Limit
A count of people the camera can see, not a calibrated density and not a count inside a drawn zone. People hidden behind others are not counted.
  • Dwell limit reached

A person or vehicle stays in an area, such as a bay or a service point, beyond the time you set.

    When
Time inside the zone passes the limit.
    Limit
An event at the limit, not a report of how long people stay.
  • Restricted-area access

A person enters a room, floor or yard at a time when entry is restricted.

    When
A person enters the zone outside the permitted hours.
    Limit
The rule knows the time, not the person: it cannot tell an authorised entry from an unauthorised one.
  • After-hours presence

A person or vehicle is in an area during the hours it should be empty.

    When
Zone entry inside a scheduled window.
    Limit
The schedule follows the clock, so authorised late work raises it unless that camera is excepted.

Use cases

What store operations teams use it for.

What the current release does for this kind of site.

  • Entrance counts

The people in view of an entrance camera, counted by quarter-hour, hour or day; not a count of entries

  • Queue thresholds

An event when the people in view of a queue-area camera reach a number

  • Stockroom entry outside hours

An alert linked to the sighting's still

  • After-hours presence

A person entering the store when it is closed

  • Car-park vehicle search

Find a vehicle by type, colour or plate

What it needs

  • A camera whose view is each entrance and each queue area: a count covers the whole view
  • Zones drawn for stockrooms and their hours

Boundaries

  • A people count is not a conversion rate. Conversion needs transaction data from your point-of-sale system, which is not connected.
  • Dwell is time in an area. It is not buying intent, and it is not suspicion.
  • An item that goes missing is not detected, and a count or a dwell event is not proof of theft.
  • Activity is shown by hour and object type, not as a heatmap on a plan of the store.

Choose an entrance, a checkout area and a stockroom. We will show the counts, the thresholds and the review queue on footage from them.
